From Jan 2022 for dwellings being leased, released or sold, smoke alarms must be installed:-
on each storey
in each bedroom
in hallways which connect bedrooms and the rest of the dwelling and if there are no bedrooms on a story at least one smoke alarm must be installed in the most likely path of travel to exit the dwelling
No ionisation smoke alarms are allowed to be used as they have been proven to be inefficient at detecting slow smoldering fires. Note, they will detect full flaming fires very well but have been proven to be less reliable in house fires than photoelectric smoke detector hence being phased out.
You can use 10 year battery-powered smoke alarm as long as they are interconnected. 240v hard-wired smoke alarms must be replaced with 240v hard wired smoke alarms.
